ROLI Piano System combines cutting-edge computer vision with AI language models to create something that didn't exist before: a piano teacher that watches how you play, not just what you play. ROLI's Airwave tracks all 27 joints in each hand at 90 frames per second, while a conversational AI coach guides you in real time through songs, exercises and technique, in 40 languages.

The idea for this had existed at ROLI for years, but the technology wasn't ready. The partnership with, and later acquisition of, UltraLeap accelerated the hand tracking, and from there, adding language models as a mode of interaction felt almost inevitable. The result is a fundamentally new way to learn piano - one that doesn't require you to read music, or even read at all.

We launched AI Music Coach in February 2026 to immediate coverage across Forbes, MusicRadar, New Atlas, Fast Company and TechCrunch. Currently in closed beta with a public beta opening in spring 2026.
